Description

A complete, self-paced course on lightning for crews who work outdoors: construction, utilities, roadway and highway work, landscaping and grounds, agriculture, roofing, telecommunications, and anyone whose people are in the open when a storm builds.

What is covered

• Why lightning cannot be engineered away, and where the legal duty comes from when no standard exists
• The five injury mechanisms: ground current, side flash, conduction, direct strike and upward streamer, and why four of them reach people the bolt never touched
• Flash-to-bang, both halves of the 30-30 rule, bolts from the blue, and why rain is the one signal that is reliably late
• Monitoring: who does it, with what tool, and why a Severe Thunderstorm Warning says nothing about lightning
• Trigger points: deriving your own distance from real evacuation time and storm speed, and why the default rule assumes a short walk
• Safe shelter: the only two things that qualify, why the vehicle works and it is not the tyres, and the long list of things that feel like shelter and are not
• Cranes, booms, scaffold, steel and roofing, plus the conductors on every site that carry current far from the strike
• Water, open ground, lone and remote workers, and where casualty data says people are actually caught
• Response: why immediate CPR works so well here, reverse triage, the no-charge fact, AED use, and the written plan

• 8 lessons, about 2.5 hours of self-paced content
• 10 videos, including two narrated explainers
• 8 interactive exercises, including a live trigger distance calculator
• Graded knowledge check after every lesson (4 questions, 75% to pass, unlimited retakes)
• Final assessment of 20 questions drawn at random from a 48-question bank, 80% to pass. Retakes draw a different set
• Certificate of completion with a verification number, for your training file and for contractor prequalification

Important scope note

This is awareness training. It does not replace certified first aid, CPR and AED training, site-specific drills, or your employer’s emergency action plan. Those are separate and they still apply.
