Description
A complete, self-paced course on solar ultraviolet exposure for crews who work outdoors: construction and roofing, roadway and highway work, utilities and telecommunications, landscaping and grounds, agriculture and forestry, surveying, marine and dock work, and delivery.
What is covered
- UV as a classified human carcinogen, the dose an outdoor worker accumulates across a career, and why a tan gives an SPF equivalent of about 3 or 4
- The UV Index: how to use it, why protection starts at 3, and why cloud, cool air and mid-May produce the burns nobody expected
- Reflection: snow up to 80 percent, sand about 15, water more at low sun angles, concrete 10 to 12, and why burns appear under the chin and inside the ears
- The three skin cancers: basal cell, squamous cell and melanoma, which one follows occupational exposure, ABCDE, the ugly duckling sign, and the three-to-four-week non-healing rule
- Shade and scheduling as the primary controls, what makes a shade structure actually get used, and UV film on vehicle side glass
- Clothing and UPF, why wet and stretched fabric protects less, brim width, and why most clear Z87.1 glasses already block UV
- Sunscreen: what the label means, why people apply a quarter of the tested amount, the places everybody misses, and its documented failure mode
- Photosensitising medications including doxycycline and thiazides, coal tar and creosote, sunburn treatment, and the ten-item programme
How it is built
- 8 lessons, about 2.5 hours of self-paced content
- 10 videos, including two narrated explainers on skin checks and sunscreen
- 8 interactive exercises, including a daily UV exposure planner
- Graded knowledge check after every lesson (4 questions, 75% to pass, unlimited retakes)
- Final assessment of 20 questions drawn at random from a 40-question bank, 80% to pass. Retakes draw a different set
- Certificate of completion with a verification number, for your training file and for contractor prequalification
Important scope note
This is awareness training. It does not replace medical advice or dermatological examination. The skin check content is about knowing when to see a clinician, not about making the assessment yourself.
