Final Assessment: Fire Extinguisher Use

OccuPros Safety Academy | Online Theory (Knowledge Module)

Fire Extinguisher Use

A fire in its first minute is a job for one person with the right extinguisher. A fire in its third minute is a job for the fire department. This course teaches you to know the difference, and to know when the only right move is to leave.

Fire is the fastest hazard you will ever face. It does not build the way a heat illness builds or wait the way a fall waits for a missed tie-off. A small flame in a trash can or on a stovetop can double in size every thirty seconds, fill a room with poison smoke before it fills it with heat, and turn an escape route into a wall of fire faster than most people believe. A portable fire extinguisher is one of the few tools that can stop that in the only window where stopping it is even possible: the first moments, while the fire is still small. Used right, at the right time, it saves property and lives. Used wrong, or used too late, it gets people killed.

So this course has two honest jobs. The first is to teach you the theory of fire and extinguishers properly: how fire works, the five classes of fire, how to match the right extinguisher to each one, the PASS technique, and the hard size-up decision of whether to fight a fire at all or get out and call 911. The second job is to be straight with you about what this online module is and is not.

This is the theory portion of a blended course. Completing this online Knowledge Module builds the understanding you need, but it does not by itself qualify you to use an extinguisher on a real fire. Full competency requires a separate, in-person, hands-on live-fire practical evaluation provided by your employer, where you actually operate an extinguisher under the eye of a qualified evaluator. The knowledge here is half of the job. The hands-on evaluation is the other half, and it cannot be skipped.

What you will learn

  • How fire actually works through the fire tetrahedron (heat, fuel, oxygen, and the chemical chain reaction), and how an extinguisher breaks it.
  • The five classes of fire (A, B, C, D, and K) and why putting the wrong extinguisher on a fire can be deadly.
  • How to match the extinguisher to the fire, including why water on a grease or electrical fire is a fatal mistake.
  • The PASS technique step by step: Pull, Aim at the base, Squeeze, and Sweep.
  • The size-up decision: how to judge whether a fire is small enough to fight, and when to drop everything, evacuate, and call 911.
  • How to inspect and maintain extinguishers, the common deadly mistakes, and what the hands-on live-fire evaluation will cover.

Who this is for

Any worker who might face a fireWarehousing, manufacturing, construction, kitchens, labs, offices, healthcare, retail. If your workplace has extinguishers on the wall, you are expected to understand them.
Designated responders and supervisorsThe people whose job plan includes fighting an incipient fire, leading an evacuation, or keeping extinguishers inspected and ready.
Why it is bilingual: a fire emergency is no time for a language gap. The decision to fight or flee, the class of the fire, the location of the nearest exit, all of it has to land instantly for every worker on the floor. This course is built in clear English and natural Spanish so the whole crew shares the same understanding before the alarm ever sounds.

Online awareness and information training aligned with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.157 (Portable Fire Extinguishers). This is the theory (Knowledge Module) portion of a blended program. Full competency requires a separate, employer-provided, hands-on live-fire practical evaluation. This course does not by itself certify or qualify any person to operate a fire extinguisher on an actual fire. Supports your employer’s fire prevention plan, emergency action plan, and required site-specific training. OccuPros | (469) 746-4040 | occupros.com | Every Worker Home Safe.

Before you buy

The practical questions, answered plainly.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes. When you finish the course and pass the assessment, your certificate of completion is available to download immediately from your dashboard. It carries a verification number.

How long do I have access?

Access to this course does not expire. It is self-paced, so you can start, stop and resume whenever you like, and your progress is saved between sessions.

What if I fail the assessment?

You can retake it. Knowledge checks run through the course and the final assessment draws from a larger question bank, so a retake will not simply repeat the same questions.

Does this course fully certify me?

No, and that matters. This is the online knowledge portion. Full qualification also requires a hands-on practical evaluation conducted by your employer or by OccuPros in person. The course tells you exactly what that evaluation has to cover.

How often does this training need repeating?

The recommended refresher cadence for this topic is annually. Retraining is also triggered by a change in process or equipment, or by an observed gap in an employee's knowledge.

Can I buy this for my whole crew?

Yes. Choose "My team" on this page to buy seats instead of a single enrolment. You become the team administrator, assign seats from your Team Portal as people join, and volume pricing applies automatically at 5 seats and again at 10.
