The power switch is off. The machine is quiet. And it can still kill you. This course teaches you to see the energy that stays behind after the shutdown, and why “off” is not the same as “safe.”
There is a dangerous moment on every job that does not look dangerous at all. The motor has stopped. The lights on the panel are dark. The noise is gone, and the machine looks done, finished, harmless. A worker reaches in to clear a jam, change a blade, or fix a leak, trusting the quiet. What that worker cannot see is that the machine is not empty. A spring is still wound. A cylinder is still under pressure. A capacitor is still holding a charge. A raised ram is held up only by the system that just lost power. The energy did not leave when the power went off. It just went still, waiting, and a service worker is exactly the person who tends to wake it up.
This is stored energy, sometimes called residual or hazardous energy, and it is one of the leading reasons people are hurt and killed during maintenance and servicing, even when they did everything they thought was right and shut the machine down first. Turning a machine off cuts the supply of new energy. It does almost nothing about the energy already trapped inside. This course teaches you to recognize every form that trapped energy takes, to understand how it injures people during service, and to know the methods used to bring it safely to zero as part of a lockout/tagout program. The goal is simple and it is personal: nobody puts a hand into a machine that is still holding a punch.
