Description

A complete, self-paced course on the biological hazards already present on a work site, written for crews in construction, utilities and meter reading, landscaping and grounds, agriculture and forestry, roadway and right of way maintenance, surveying, telecommunications, and building renovation and demolition.

What is covered

  • Why nearly every incident follows a disturbance, and how the hierarchy of controls applies to hazards that move
  • Stinging insects: bees, wasps, hornets, yellowjackets and fire ants, why yellowjackets are the highest risk for outdoor crews, and what to do when a colony is disturbed
  • Finding nests from a safe distance, and the avoid, reschedule, professional or in-house decision
  • Anaphylaxis: recognition, auto-injector technique, why previous stings prove nothing, why 911 is required even after recovery, and the antihistamine mistake that kills people
  • Ticks: what they carry including alpha-gal syndrome, why attachment time makes the daily check work, permethrin on clothing, and correct removal
  • Snakes: avoidance, and correct first aid including the full list of traditional measures that make the outcome worse
  • Spiders, scorpions, and the hantavirus and histoplasmosis risk in disturbed rodent and bird droppings
  • Poison ivy, oak and sumac: how urushiol transfers to tools and clothing, why the rash is not contagious, and why burning it causes hospitalisation
  • Dogs on private property, rabies reservoirs, and the bat rule that surprises everyone
  • PPE, repellents, the end-of-shift routine, and the ten-item site programme

How it is built

  • 10 lessons, about 3 hours of self-paced content
  • 12 videos, including two narrated explainers on anaphylaxis and ticks
  • 10 interactive exercises
  • Graded knowledge check after every lesson (4 questions, 75% to pass, unlimited retakes)
  • Final assessment of 20 questions drawn at random from a 40-question bank, 80% to pass. Retakes draw a different set
  • Certificate of completion with a verification number, for your training file and for contractor prequalification

Important scope note

This is awareness training. It does not replace certified first aid and CPR training, a respiratory protection programme under 29 CFR 1910.134, pesticide applicator licensing, or professional pest and wildlife control.
