Description

A complete, self-paced course on Part 6 of the MUTCD, the national standard for temporary traffic control. Built for utility, sitework, and construction crews who set up and work inside real work zones.

What is covered

  • The four areas of a temporary traffic control zone, and why the buffer stays empty
  • Signs, channelizing devices, markings, arrow boards, and lighting
  • Taper and device-spacing math, with an interactive calculator and worked examples
  • Flagger procedures, station placement, and stopping sight distance
  • Pedestrian, bicyclist, and ADA/PROWAG accessible routes when your work closes a walkway
  • Positive protection, exposure control, and work zone speed management
  • Internal traffic control: equipment, backing, spotters, and blind zones
  • Night work, retroreflectivity, lighting, and glare control
  • The regulatory stack: FHWA, OSHA, EPA, FMCSA, and state requirements
  • Mobile operations, short-duration work, and unplanned incident response
  • Reading Typical Applications, and the setup and takedown order that keeps crews alive

How it is built

  • 12 lessons, about 4 hours of self-paced content
  • 15 videos, including three narrated explainers
  • 12 interactive exercises, including a live taper calculator
  • Graded knowledge check after every lesson (4 questions, 75% to pass, unlimited retakes)
  • Final assessment of 24 questions drawn at random from a 48-question bank, 80% to pass. Retakes draw a different set
  • Downloadable field job aids and a study companion
  • Certificate of completion with a verification number, for your training file and for contractor prequalification

Important scope note

This is knowledge training. It does not by itself qualify or authorize a person to work as a flagger, and it does not replace a state-required flagger certification, your employer’s hands-on evaluation and authorization, or site-specific training on your own traffic control plan.
