Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Are safety committees required by OSHA?

OSHA does not require safety committees for most private sector employers at the federal level. However, some states require them, and many clients or contracts require them. Regardless of requirements, effective committees improve safety outcomes.

How many people should be on a safety committee?

We typically recommend 5-10 members depending on company size. Include representatives from management and from different work areas or shifts. Rotate membership periodically to involve more employees over time.

How often should the safety committee meet?

Monthly meetings are most common. Some companies prefer quarterly meetings for the full committee with more frequent subcommittee or inspection activities. We help you determine the right frequency for your organization.
